Get to Know Me
Growing up in Wisconsin, I volunteered on the pediatric unit at the hospital where my mom worked as a nurse. I knew early on that I wanted to work in a medical setting myself one day. Once I began studying psychology in college, I realized that I could combine medicine and psychology to help children.
Why I Treat Children
I have always known that I wanted to care for children. My hospital volunteer work reinforced this belief for me. Children are so honest. I like the way they tell it like it is. This work is often very difficult and it is motivating to know that by intervening early and being proactive, we can do a lot to prevent future problems and enhance quality of life.
What I'm Passionate About
I specialize in working with children with chronic or acute medical illness. Part of my job is helping families cope while their child is in the hospital. Another important aspect is following children after they leave the hospital. I try to make sure that kids and families have the resources they need to manage everyday life.
How I Try to Make A Difference
One of my strengths is the ability to connect with families, develop trust and become an advocate for them while they are making decisions that affect their child. I see it as an important part of my role to make sure that all of the providers are on the same page, and that the family鈥檚 wishes and concerns are heard.
