Get to Know Me
I became interested in diagnosing children in medical school. It's a challenge when they can't tell you what's wrong. I joined Nemours after many years of inpatient pediatrics in the United States and abroad. I appreciate that we are an academic center, where evidence-based medicine is the norm and families are respected members of the care team.
Why I Treat Children
I enjoy the challenge of treating children versus adults. Best of all is the feeling you get when a hospitalized child is healthy enough to leave the unit and go home. One of my jobs is helping newborns whose mothers used drugs during pregnancy. It is very rewarding to see them safely recovering through the difficult withdrawal period.
What I'm Passionate About
My special interests include childhood asthma and neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Babies born with this condition require special care. We're learning more all the time about how best to help them.
How I Try to Make A Difference
One of my priorities is open, helpful interaction with families. I try to communicate clearly, address all of their concerns, and use layman's language to explain things in a way that makes sense. I stay away from a lot of medical terms that can be confusing or intimidating.
